How do you deal with Pain?

Recently I had a knee replacement and prior to the operation the surgeon informed me that I would be in extreme prolonged pain. Well he was right. It has been 6 weeks since my operation and while I feel it is getting better, the pain is constant and debilitating.

So how am I dealing with it?

Well to be honest not very well. I do my exercises daily as required and night time is a bizarre mixture of relief of getting into bed but also knowing that sleep will not come easily due to the pain I feel. I am trying to take less pain killers as eventually they will not give me anymore, but laying in bed at 3 in the morning I usually succumb and take the required amount.

I know my pain will eventually go and I will be able to walk without pain after many years of hobbling around, and to be honest that day can't come quick enough.

I use meditation daily to assist in reducing the influence the pain has on my normal day activities.

What about those who have chronic pain for whatever reason and there is no cure for it?

What do they do to get through every day? How does their mind stay strong enough to

cope with knowing that every day the pain will be there and there is no hope of it going?

How do you deal with pain, both mental and physical?
